It’s been a long time since an update. That’s partially because my state for the past week or so has been a busy one. In addition, because I’ve been busy, not much outside of being busy has occurred.
My time before I left for NYC on 1 September was pretty busy with doing as much as could around the house as possible. In addition, I had to pack up some boxes and, of course, two suitcases full of clothing. I got to see everyone before I departed, so that was good.
The flight from LAX to JFK was uneventful and surprisingly arrived on time given the fact that the Republican National Convention was still in town at the time. I was fortunate enough to have noone in the seat next to me so I had two full seats to myself, allowing me to stretch out and orient myself in more comfortable positions than would otherwise be possible.
Lippert and his dad picked me up from the airport and took me, along with my belongings, back to their house in NJ. The next day involved some trapsing around the area, which included a visit with Goldberg to the Palisades mall. Around dusk, Matt and I packed up the car for the initial trip to Columbia.
Moving in went along with no real kinks. Our suite, despite it’s “aged looks” isn’t all that bad. I have a huge single (~175 sqft) without any major configuration problems (a la Wien). The one major issue we have with the suite is the bathroom, which is relatively crappy. In addition, there isn’t any A/C, but that’s really only an issue the first and last few weeks of school. The kitchen is microscopic as well, especially when compared to EC (East Campus for those not familiar with Columbia housing parlance). Not ideal but, all in all, not too bad. Oh, one notable plus I should mention is the lofted ceilings.
Friday night entailed seeing a subset of the Barnard group at their ridiculously awesome suite (*jealous*) for some drinks and good times. This included Lippert being made over (pictures available upon request and sufficient payment) and was followed by a quick trip to the West End.
Much of Saturday involved a stomach ache; hence, I was not able to really eat or do much until the evening. That involved dinner at V&Ts and hanging out with Sharon for the evening. Sunday involved reconnoitering part of midtown with Sharon. The purpose of the trip was to acquire a new backpack for her. Somehow, popcorn, the Sony Style store, and Central Park were incorporated into this trip as well.
Today has involved more room arrangement. The rest of my stuff arrived today (sans one box of relatively unimportant stuff that’s still in the mail), so I had to shlep it up to my room and distribute it forthwith. In related news, I need an extra dresser for some additional storage and so I have an appartus upon which to place my TV.
First day of school tomorrow. Yay…or boo…or something.
