So I went with Sharon to Los Angeles this weekend for the purpose of looking at the campuses of schools she got into. The trip itself was pleasant; it was nice to get away from Columbia. However, the voyage back to school went about as badly as possible.
Since we booked the trip on short notice, we ended up taking a red-eye that was scheduled to leave L.A. at 10:45 and get in to EWR a little after 6 in the morning. Well, the flight that was arriving at that gate was delayed in arriving. Hence, we had to wait at the gate until everyone disembarked from the aircraft and it was cleaned. Then, of course, the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) on the aircraft was broken, meaning they had to start the engines from an external unit (confidence-inspiring). When all was said and done, we took off a few minutes before 1AM. And, just as a cruel joke, my seat was broken, so I couldn’t lean back whilst attempting to sleep.
Once we arrived at Newark, it was time to take the train to Penn Station. Upon arriving at the station, all of the trains headed to Penn Station were delayed. An employee said that there was a switching problem and the train should be arriving in about 45 minutes to an hour. Well, after a little more than an hour, apparently a wire problem prevented any trains from coming or going from the Newark station. So Sharon and I had to take a bus to Newark Penn Station to catch a train to New York. Arrival time at Columbia was 1PM.
Of course, I passed out and was intending to go to one class today. I don’t remember turning off my alarm clock, but apparently I did since I awoke at 5:30 instead of 3:30. Also, I’m the proud owner of two useless EWR to NYP train tickets. So I have to send them back to New Jersey Transit with a form to get my $23 back.
No rest for the weary. Plenty of work to do this week. One more app to submit, and then I shall be done with those. However, since I have projects in three of my classes, rest and relaxation will not be in the cards.
